ScotMesh is a community building open, resilient mesh networks across Scotland: radio networks that keep working when the internet or the mobile networks do not, run by the people who use them. This wiki covers ScotMesh's Reticulum network. The community itself lives on scotmesh.uk.

Three kinds of mesh
People in ScotMesh run three kinds of network, and many of us run more than one.
- MeshCore and Meshtastic are LoRa mesh systems: small radios that pass text messages between each other with no infrastructure. ScotMesh runs tools for them on scotmesh.net, such as a live map, packet analysis, coverage mapping and alerts.
- Reticulum is a networking stack rather than a radio system: it joins LoRa, the internet, I2P and anything else that can carry data into one encrypted network. See What Reticulum is and How Reticulum works.
They are complementary rather than rivals, and some of our projects join them together, for example carrying Reticulum over MeshCore and Meshtastic.
What ScotMesh runs for Reticulum
- The backbone: a public Reticulum transport node that anyone can connect to, with no account or registration. It carries traffic, hosts a chat room, a Nomad Network node and a propagation node for offline messages. See The ScotMesh Backbone.
- The flasher: turns supported LoRa boards into RNode radios or standalone nodes. See RNode and ScotMesh firmware.
- The firmware: our build of microReticulum for remote, solar-powered relays, with remote management and updates without a cable. See ScotMesh firmware.

Getting involved
- Get connected: Connecting to ScotMesh takes you from nothing to on the network in about five minutes, with no hardware.
- Put up a node: a relay on a hill, a roof or a windowsill is how the network grows; start with Running your own transport node or a ScotMesh firmware solar node.
- Say hello: on the ScotMesh Discord, where most of us are, on the forum, or in The chat room on the network itself.
