The chat room

ScotMesh runs a chat room called scotmesh on an RRC hub (Reticulum Relay Chat): rooms, nicknames, topics and operators, carried entirely over Reticulum. It is the place to say hello, ask for help, and find out who else is on.

Out of the box

MeshChatX has chat built in. Once you are connected to ScotMesh:

Open the chat section.
The ScotMesh hub appears in the list of hubs once its hourly announce has reached you. If it is not there yet, add it by the address above.
Join the room scotmesh.

Sideband and the iPhone apps are messaging clients and do not do rooms; use MeshChatX for chat, or one of the clients below.

Full installation

With Reticulum installed yourself, any RRC client works: Ratspeak, rrc-tui, rrc-gui, WeeChat (with the RRC plugin) and Eridanus. Point the client at the hub address, then:

/join scotmesh

The hub announces itself every hour, so a client that lists hubs will usually show it without the address being typed.

What to expect

There is no scrollback. The hub relays messages live and stores nothing, so anyone joining later starts from silence. That is deliberate: nothing you say is kept on our machine.
Nicknames are yours to choose. Your Reticulum identity is what the hub actually recognises, so nobody can take your nickname while you are using it.
It can be quiet. Scotland is not a big place for Reticulum yet. If nobody answers, leave the window open, or ask on the ScotMesh Discord instead.

Operators

Room operators can set the topic and, if it ever comes to it, remove someone. Ask in the room or on the ScotMesh Discord if you would like operator rights for the scotmesh room; we are glad of the help.

Your own rooms

Anyone connected can create a room on the hub with /join followed by a new name. Rooms exist while someone is in them.
