Recommended Settings

More actions
Most problems on the mesh come from nodes left on defaults. These settings keep traffic down so the routers, many of them solar powered, keep up.
| Setting | Recommended | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Hop limit | 7 |
Reach across the hills. See Getting Started. |
| Role | CLIENT; ROUTER only if high and mains powered |
REPEATER was removed in firmware 2.7.11. Use ROUTER.
|
| RX Boosted Gain | On for fixed, well powered nodes | About 3 dB more sensitivity for about 0.5 mA. |
| Node Info interval | 4 hours or more | The default is 3 hours. |
| Device telemetry | Off, or 4 hours or more | Off by default now. |
| Position interval | 4 hours or more on fixed nodes | Mobile nodes can use Smart Position. |
| Smart Position | Mobile nodes only | On a fixed node it only adds traffic. |
| Neighbor Info | Off | No routing benefit, just extra traffic. |
| Rebroadcast mode | ALL on clients; LOCAL_ONLY or KNOWN_ONLY on routers |
Stops routers relaying traffic from other meshes. |
Do and don't
- Don't leave traceroute running. Use it when you need it.
- Don't run telemetry or position on short intervals.
- Check what connected apps and tools are sending. Some send traceroutes on their own.
- Be kind.
From the Ignored nodes thread (MTEK, BNRT and others), checked against the official Meshtastic docs.
